What does Shopify cost? Plans, fees and extra costs in Austria
The monthly fee is the smallest part of the bill
Shopify starts at €24 a month in Austria. It gets interesting with what comes on top: fees per order, apps, theme, setup and operations. All prices are for Austria in euros, as of 29 October 2026, each with a link to the source.
You want to know what Shopify costs before you commit. Here you get the whole bill, not just the price from the front page.

The four plans at a glance
The higher the plan, the higher the monthly fee and the lower the fee per card payment. Sources: Shopify pricing Austria and Shopify Help Center on the Plus plan. Shopify does not state whether the amounts are net or gross, so check this when you sign up.
What every plan includes
According to Shopify, every plan includes unlimited web hosting, an SSL certificate, themes, unlimited products and the Shopify checkout. No plan has setup fees.
To try it out, Shopify offers 3 days free and then €1 per month for 3 months, according to the pricing page.

The plan is only the first layer
Shopify charges for the first two layers itself. The other four arise with apps, design, implementation and operations, and that is where the big differences usually lie.
Below we go through each layer one by one.
What is in each layer
- Plan: The monthly fee is at the top. It is the smallest layer once your store grows.
- Payment fees: For every order you pay a fee to the payment provider. With Shopify Payments it depends on the plan (online card 2% to 1.5% plus €0.25). With an external provider you pay its fees plus a transaction fee to Shopify (2% on Basic down to 0.2% on Plus). Klarna costs 2.99% plus €0.35 on Basic to Advanced and 2.19% plus €0.35 on Plus, EPS 1.75% plus €0.25 on all plans. If you sell in person, cards in store cost 1.3% down to 1%. This layer grows with your revenue.
- Theme and design: Themes are available free and paid, and the license is a one-time cost. With Shopify Plus, every live expansion store needs its own theme license. Custom design and adjustments are development effort (layer 5).
- Apps: Apps for reviews, subscriptions, search, shipping, email or accounting usually cost a monthly fee. A single app is rarely the problem, ten apps are. Check each one for ongoing cost, data protection and a way out. Public apps with Shopify Functions run on every plan, custom apps with Function APIs only on Plus.
- Setup, migration and integration: This is the layer Shopify itself does not charge for: build, design, data transfer, ERP and inventory system connections, checkout customization. For Plus, Shopify explicitly recommends budgeting for a partner for custom development. The effort depends on the same drivers as any relaunch.
- Operations and further development: Updates, monitoring, support, new features, markets and campaigns. A store is not a one-off project. Plan for this layer from the start.

The cheapest plan depends on revenue
At €30,000 card revenue a month, Basic is cheapest, at €100,000 Grow, at €400,000 Advanced. On fees alone, Plus only pays off at very high volume.
The graphic shows only plan and card fees. Apps, rebuild and operations come on top.

How to calculate it yourself
A higher plan has a higher monthly fee and a lower card fee. On fees alone it pays off as soon as the saved card fees exceed the plan's additional cost.
Formula: Monthly card revenue = additional cost of the plan per month divided by the fee difference in percent.
Example Basic to Grow: €45 additional cost per month at a 0.1 percentage point difference gives a break-even at €45,000 card revenue per month. Going straight from Basic to Advanced, the threshold is roughly €88,300 (€265 at 0.3 percentage points). For Plus we calculate with €1,811 additional cost over Advanced on a 3-year term.
What the calculation does not show: It only applies to card payments through Shopify Payments, and only that share counts. For Klarna, EPS and most other payment methods, the fees on Basic to Advanced are the same, so you save nothing there. The real threshold is therefore higher if many customers pay another way. Features can also trigger the switch earlier: staff accounts, number of B2B catalogs, checkout customization or API limits. This is a calculation model, not a forecast. Whether Plus pays off is a decision of its own, which we calculate in a separate article.
If you sell in person
Shopify POS covers selling in a store. Payments with a smartphone or card reader are included in every plan, POS Pro costs €79 per month and location. Shopify Plus includes 20 locations, and up to 200 with Shopify Payments, according to Shopify. If you connect several stores with an online shop, compare the number of locations before you switch plans.
When the monthly fee is no longer the main thing
Basic or Grow is often enough to start. As soon as one of these situations appears, it is more about integration, data quality and operations than about the plan. That is where we help: we are a digital agency in Bregenz and have delivered over 20 Shopify Plus implementations and twelve ERP and system integrations.
What our clients say
Planning a store or a switch?
In Austria, from €24 per month with annual payment (Basic), €32 with monthly payment. Grow costs €69 and €92, Advanced €289 and €384. Shopify Plus starts at €2,100 per month on a three-year term, and €2,250 on a one-year term. As of 29 October 2026.
Shopify names no setup fees. On top come payment fees per order, plus apps, theme licenses, development and operations. They are not hidden, but they are not included in the monthly fee.
From €2,100 per month on a three-year term and €2,250 on a one-year term, each for standard setups. For more complex businesses with high volume, a variable platform fee can apply instead, whose amount Shopify does not publish. Whether Plus pays off is explained in our separate comparison of Plus and Advanced.
No. With an external provider you pay its fees plus a transaction fee to Shopify (2% on Basic down to 0.2% on Plus, according to the pricing page). Shopify Payments has the advantage of lower card fees and built-in fraud analysis.
Shopify does not state this on its pricing pages. Check it when you sign up for your plan.
That depends on the project. What matters are integrations, data migration, markets, design and custom logic. We calculate every project individually, and the first call is free and non-binding.
For Shopify Plus, Shopify states that the migration itself costs nothing. What costs money is the effort for data cleanup, mapping your logic and testing, usually by a partner.
According to the pricing page, you get 3 days free and then €1 per month for 3 months on most plans. Which plans are excluded is not stated on the page.
