A personal story from Julia, David and Islam about combining studying with a job.
As the saying goes: "One for all, all for one!"
That motto has carried me and my colleagues David and Islam through both our studies and our working lives. Our success comes down to a mix of luck, ability, willpower and, above all, the support of the entire Digit-One team.
What matters most to us is the flexibility Digit-One extends to us. It lets us respond to any change and line up our commitments between company projects and deadlines and exams at the university. That creates an atmosphere of trust and openness in which we can really flourish.
Being able to apply what you've learned in your studies in a professional setting is hugely rewarding. The symbiosis of classroom theory and hands-on application at Digit-One shows us afresh every day just how relevant and versatile the degree is. Another factor is the support and experience we get from the co-founders. They've combined studying and working themselves, and they share their valuable tips and tricks with us. Their backing gives us the confidence that we can pull off this balancing act.
Digit-One gives us exactly the framework we need to succeed as individuals. Each of us has different strengths and weaknesses. Both get nurtured and challenged. And even if a resit comes along — which sooner or later it will on a part-time degree 😉 — we know there's a sympathetic ear waiting and that we'll get practical support.
Studying together at the office
We're given a space where all the resources we need are at hand to study together and tackle group work. Our fellow students are always welcome to drop by the office and take us up on the offer, too. Being able to use the technical resources available — and share them with others — makes many group projects more successful and more efficient. It's another feel-good perk at Digit-One that helps us juggle studying and work.
All in all, this experience has been a formative one for all of us. Combining a degree with a job is certainly not for the faint-hearted. A lot has been asked of us since our studies began in autumn 2022. Choosing Digit-One as our employer was the best decision the three of us could have made to see this adventure through. We're glad to have the team's full support, to feel empathy in the tough moments, and to be motivated to bring what we learn straight back into the company.
