Relaxed and stress-free: the go-live process at Digit-One

Development is finished, features and modules are tested, the content is in place, and we're ready to show our project to the world. But how exactly does a process like that run? In this blog post I'll show you how we handle the "go-live" for our web projects.
Go-live
The Digit-One way
In web development, go-live day — that decisive moment when a project moves from development into its live phase and becomes accessible worldwide — counts as a particularly exciting event. Usually the day is marked by a mix of anticipation and tension. At Digit-One, though, we take a different approach to this milestone, one that turns a potentially chaotic undertaking into a smooth, worry-free experience. Let me give you a look into our process and show you what sets us apart.
Going beyond the deadline: a different way of seeing "go-live"
Rather than treating go-live as a one-off, time-critical event, Digit-One takes a staged, carefully prepared approach. Our philosophy? Go-live shouldn't feel like a hurried, headlong rush forward, but rather a multi-phase procedure that secures readiness and quality well before the actual launch date.
Our process: preparation is key
The key to a smooth go-live lies in careful preparation and attention to detail. Here's how we make sure every project is ready for its big moment:
1. Setting up and configuring the server
To begin with, we lay the foundation by preparing the production environment. That includes the following steps:
- Server creation: we set up a server tailored specifically to the project's needs. In doing so we account for the required technologies such as PHP, MySQL and others, to ensure optimal performance.
- Security measures: to prevent premature indexing by search engines or unwanted public access, we implement password protection. This step matters not only for search engine optimisation (SEO) but is also essential for protecting our clients' timelines.
2. Integration into the deployment pipelines
To optimise the transition from the development to the production environment, we integrate a production step into our deployment pipelines. That makes sure the project can be transferred to the production server efficiently and with minimal manual effort.
3. Data migration and finalising content
An essential phase in our process is migrating data from the staging environment to the production server. This step lets our clients feed in their content and carry out final checks in a live environment. Our approach gives a realistic preview of how the website will work and look once published.
4. Redirect management
Where it's a relaunch, setting up redirects is an indispensable step. The aim is to avoid search engines and visitors running into a host of 404 error pages. That's especially important for preserving SEO performance and ensuring a positive user experience. Here we give our clients a template early on so they can map content from the old site to the new one. This process helps secure the continuity and findability of content, which in turn supports a smooth transition for users and search engines alike.
5. The final stretch
As the official launch date approaches, the remaining steps focus more on technical fine-tuning than on content or design changes:
- DNS configuration: adjusting the Domain Name System (DNS) settings to point to the new server, which makes the website reachable at its final web address.
- Removing password protection: lifting the temporary security measures to open the website up to the public and to search engines.
And then it's:
Yay, we're live! 🚀

Why this approach works
Our approach to go-live brings a whole range of advantages:
- Less stress: by tackling potential problems and requirements early, we minimise the challenges and the stress for our team and our clients on the decisive day.
- Quality assurance: extensive preparation up front allows for thorough testing and quality control. That's how we make sure we can present a fault-free, fully functional website on launch day.
- Client involvement: by giving access to the production website early, we let our clients contribute and make well-informed decisions. That increases overall satisfaction with the end product.
- Celebrating instead of panicking: when the deadline finally arrives, our team can concentrate on supporting our clients, resolving any last small issues and celebrating the successful launch of another great project.
In summary, go-live at Digit-One is far more than a simple date in the calendar — it's a carefully planned process designed to ensure a seamless, stress-free launch of our web projects. By reshaping this decisive milestone, we don't just set our projects up for success; we also redefine what it means to bring a digital vision to life.
