My Internship at Digit-One

I spent four weeks at Digit-One as part of my compulsory work placement. How I ended up at Digit-One, what my tasks were, what I learned and what I enjoyed most — it's all in this post.
Why Digit-One?
My name is Daniel Moosbrugger, I'm 17 and a fourth-year student at the Bezau business college. The agency Digit-One came to me as an insider tip from one of my teachers. He knew Benno Purin, who had also sat his school-leaving exams in Bezau a few years earlier. Once I'd read up on the company, I was sold straight away. A small, close-knit, forward-looking digital agency seemed perfect for picking up a lot of useful knowledge on the topics that interest me.
What were my tasks?
After a short onboarding from Jackie, I got to learn the basics of Figma right away with the help of video tutorials. Immediately after that I was given the job of designing a module for the Digit-One website to put what I'd learned into practice. Alongside writing blog posts and putting presentations together, I also got a deep look into the entire project structure. One particular project stayed with me across all four weeks, because the concept workshop fell in my very first week. Once I'd found out what the client wanted and needed, I created a new branding together with Jackie, then sketched wireframes independently and finally drafted the rough design.
What I enjoyed most
Company culture
The company's low average age shows above all in its laissez-faire leadership style. The working atmosphere is generally relaxed and straightforward, and leaves plenty of room to develop your creativity and your own abilities.
Flexible working hours
My previous holiday jobs and placements always had very strict fixed hours. So I found it really pleasant to be in the office at 9am rather than 7am, and I'm sure it extended my productive hours.
Tasks
I found the tasks I was given genuinely exciting. Because Digit-One asked me before the placement what would interest me most, the work always matched my interests and meant I learned a great deal.
Team
Whether it's development, UI/UX design or SEO, there's an expert on almost every topic within the Digit-One team. The openness and empathy of Jackie, Benno, Phillip and Sami meant I felt at home very quickly.
I'm very grateful for such an interesting placement, and for the chance to learn at a company that is still almost in its founding phase. All my personal expectations and goals were met — in fact exceeded — and if chance ever brings me back to Hard again, I'd be glad of it.
