Where ideas become reality
Just under four weeks ago, every team member had the chance to pitch their idea — which produced a whole range of creative proposals.
After careful consideration, the team settled on three ambitious projects: a smart coffee bean scale equipped with a Raspberry Pi that sends data to a dashboard. It delivers weight statistics and, via a webhook, triggers an alert to a Slackbot that warns the team when supplies are running low. On top of that, we put our craftsmanship to the test with a D1 chessboard and a Passe Trappe game. So the first hackathon last weekend wasn't just a spectacular event — it was the start of a new tradition.
The hackathon kicked off on Friday at midday and set a genuinely exciting project in motion. Right from the start we stocked up on wood, screws, paint and, of course, plenty of snacks 😉. There was designing, sanding, painting and assembling. The commitment was impressive.
The well-earned break in the evening was spent over dinner together. That pause was a chance to swap notes and unwind as a group. Wins were celebrated and the next steps for the following day were mapped out.
The highlight came on Saturday: finishing the projects. After a productive day of fine-tuning, the team was ready to see its work in action and, above all, put it properly through its paces. The star of the show was the self-built Passe Trappe game, affectionately dubbed "Digit-Puck", which was an instant hit. Just as gripping was the chess duel between Jackie and Benno.
As the hackathon wrapped up on Saturday evening, we looked back on two days full of creativity, collaboration and fun. It was a time in which we didn't just build innovative solutions — the team grew closer, too.
We're delighted that thanks to this hackathon we'll never face a coffee shortage in the office again, that we can stretch our brain cells over a game of chess, and that we can burn off some energy with a lively round of "Digit-Puck"! 🫶🏼
